Prakash Raj is essaying role of Vengadam the best silk weaver in a small town of Kanchivaram in Tamil nadu. He pledges that he would give his daughter a silk saree in her marriage. His pledge becomes the talk of the town as a weaver could not afford such an expensive saree in pre independence era. He saves up money but his brother-in-law ruins his plans. He starts stealing silk strands from his work place. At the same time he is heading a strike against his owner for weavers pay hike. The strike acts as a deterrent to his pledge.
